LIPTON'S SEAT

Lipton’s Seat  is one of the attractive observation points of Sri Lankan Tourism. It is located on the top of the Poonagala hill near the Dambetenna tea factory in Poonagala, Sri lanka. The place gets this name after the famous tea planter Sir Thomas Lipton used this place to survey the surrounding region of his tea plantations.

To reach the place you have to climb about 7 km through rich tea plantations. Some parts of the roads are still not repaired since British built them. Therefore the original stone constructions are abided. From the Lipton’s view you can entertain and have a conspicuous view of the Uva, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Eastern provinces including 7 districts.

If you are capable enough to travel there on a clear day it will be breath taking. In wanting to be entertained by the entire site, early morning will be fantastic as the mist sets in. Lipton’s seat is a panoramic overlooking destination in Sri lanka. Handapanagala lake, Chandrika lake, Uda walwe lake, Wedi hiti Kanda mountains, and also the hambanthota harbor located in the in the southern coastal area can be seen remarkably.

Firstly you have to select the route either Bandarawela via Nayabedda estate or Haputale via Dambetenna Tea estate. Both the routes are fully fledged with lots of gorgeous outlooks, amid with pure green lush green plantations. For a broader and clear over looking, it is recommended to arrive before 10.00am to the Lipton’s seat.

By the way progression to the Lipton’s seat is narrowed from the Tea factory. On the way you will also meet St. Catherines seat and Lemasthota Waterfall. St. Catherines seat is also a overlooking point in the Nayabedda estate which will provide a unprecedented and a stunning view of Bandarwela ,Diyatalawa and the Uva valley to the Namunukula mountain range.

Actually Lemasthota water fall is not popular and concerned as a water fall among the community. This small waterfall can be seen on your way to Dambetenna from Haputale. March and August are the best months to enjoy and visit at Lipton’s seat.
