MEEMURE

  Meemure is a remote village located near the border border between Kandy district and Matale district in the knuckles mountain range.

Meemure is an isolated village surrounded by mountains where you can experience true beauty of the nature and the rural village life.The population of Meemure is about 400.There are no cellular service and television signals available in the village.But a CDMA service is available.There are about 4 CDMA phones available in some houses.

Villagers are friendly and they are always ready to offer any help to  visitors.Farming is the main income of the almost all of the villagers and they mainly cultivate staple crops like ginger, paddy,cardamon,pepper etc.At Meemure you can see terraced paddy fields in small hills.Farmers do not use harmful fertilizers and they use traditional farming techniues.So at Meemure you can get a chance to taste Traditional foods like kurkkan,badairigu which are free from chemical fertilizers.

At Meemure you can engage in various activities.If  you are interested in hiking you can take a hiking trip to Lakegala,which is located near the village.There is an ancient myth Rawana lifted the " dadhu monaraya " from Lakegala.There is a waterfall which is known as " Galamune Ella " by the villagers.The Kaluganga flows across the Meemure.There are camping sites on the river bank where you can build a camp and make a camp fire at night.These camping sites are ideal for bird watching and you can have a wonderful experience.If you are interested you can have original kithul toddy and kithul pani from the villagers.

 

The distance from Meemure to colombo is about 175km.There are two routes which you can take to reach Meemure.If you are travelling by bus you can travel to Hunnasgiriya and from the you can take the van service to Meemure.This van service the only mode of transportation to Meemure.This van service only available twice of a day.If you are traveling by your own vehicle you can reach to Meemure via Matale- Rattota- Narangamuwa rd. From Narangamuwa rd you can travel about

12km from your own vehicle towards Meemure and from there you have to walk about 10km to reach Meemure.
